Hi, I'm Brian Jia

Electrical & Computer Engineering

Senior

at The Ohio State University

Expected graduation in May 2027.

I make cool things! Scroll down to see selections from my resume, in portfolio form!

Although I'm officially declared as a Computer Engineering major, I often tell people I'm studying Electrical Engineering as I've chosen my electives to be very EE-focused: Signals & Systems, RF & Optics, Microwave Circuits, Analog & Digital Communications, etc.

Engineering Experience

International Rocket Engineering Competition Team, OSU

Avionics Lead, May 2025 – April 2026

I led the design and integration of all software and electronics on a competition sounding rocket that went to 20,000 ft in the Summer 2026, at the International Rocket Engineering Competition in Midland, Texas.

I obtained an amateur radio technician class license to be able to transmit GPS tracking data and guidance computer telemetry to the ground.

Designed, simulated and validated custom antennas and stock antenna placements for 433 MHz, 900 MHz bands.

FintennaAnsys HFSSVNA

Designed guidance computer electrical schematics and PCBs; frequent use of electronic test equipment including oscilloscope, power supply, multimeter, VNA, etc. for validating embedded systems.

Flight Computer PCB

Designed and validated low-noise DC-DC power converter circuits for powering IMUs, A/D & D/A converters, control surface motors, and low-noise transmission lines for GNSS.

Probing PCB

Machined essential structural components for the rocket, including bulkheads and solid rocket motor casing.

Machining

Tested magnetic arming systems to allow flight computers to be switched on while the rocket is mounted on the launch rail.
